What Are The 3 Primary Components Of On-page Optimization?
When it comes to optimizing your website, there are three main components. They all relate directly to improving the performance of your site either through enhancing its usability or changing how well it functions under mobile devices and/or low bandwidth connections.
The first component is ensuring that your HTML code is valid, inline styles are correct, and that your CSS rules are properly nested. These three things contribute heavily to making your pages look good while using up limited browser resources.
Next you should consider what kind of content and features you want to include on your page. This includes determining if you need to have certain sections, such as about us, services, testimonials, etc., or if you can get away with just having a search bar.
You also want to make sure that your link text makes sense and is clear. If your link takes users somewhere else, then use the appropriate term for that location instead.
Secondly, you should
Check out your website’s URL
In this day and age, it is virtually impossible to have a successful business if you don’t own or at least be familiar with an internet domain name. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but making sure your domain name includes your company’s most important identifying characteristics can sometimes be tricky.
For example, what does your business actually do? If you read our earlier article about defining yourself as an entrepreneur, you learned that being an entrepreneur means doing something for money. So, why not use the word “business” as your domain name?
Unfortunately, there are already several businesses by that exact same term. Luckily, you’re in very good shape! You already have one set of balls (sorry) so you’ll need to pick either option 2 or 3 below.
Option #2: Try using your company name as your domain name.
This is a great idea if you happen to know who your competitors are and how well they are performing in their field. By taking some time to consider the strengths and weaknesses of your competition, you will able to find a domain name that is similar, yet different enough to fool potential customers into thinking it belongs to them.
Your company name is the best place to start when choosing your domain name because it tells people everything they need to know to identify you.
And finally, you should
check your website’s navigation
Now that you have done some basic editing to make your pages more interesting and clear, it is time to test your site!
More than anything else, making sure your visitors can find what they are looking for, efficiently, is an integral part of web design. Navigation is a very important element in this process.
Too many times we will edit a page or create a new one and then forget about the other areas of our sites. We may also add or remove things from the nav bar so frequently we do not keep them in order.
When developing your site, try to maintain consistency across all levels. Make sure everything is linked together properly and clearly!
Take a look at the top websites out there and see how well their menus work. You will probably notice something unique about each one.
That is because every designer has individual style quirks that separate them from the rest.
But if you want to be like those elite designers, take some time to experiment with yours! It will inspire you to develop your own signature styles.
Make sure your website is fully optimized for search engines
More than anything, this means ensuring that your site contains no spelling or grammatical errors and that the content is relevant to what you want people to learn from your site.
On-page optimization also includes making sure that your HTML is valid and using appropriate CSS and JavaScript to enhance your user experience.
By optimizing your pages for web browsers, you are taking some steps to make your site more accessible for all users, not just those with very specific browser software or extensions.
There are many free tools you can use to check the quality of your HTML and CSS, as well as test how mobile friendly and SEO effective your page is.
Make sure your website is visible to your target market
While ensuring that your site has enough content to attract visitors and establish yourself as an authority in your field is important, making sure that you are actually able to contact those visitors is another crucial step towards success.
This includes ensuring that your website’s address is clear and easy to find, that there are no broken links, and that anyone can access and navigate easily through your pages. It also means making sure that your email provider isn’t blocking emails from your server being delivered (which happens all too often with free providers like Gmail) or rejecting messages because you aren’t paying their expensive subscription service.
Sadly, this kind of thing doesn’t just happen overnight – it takes time to identify and fix these issues! If you want more exposure, make sure you’re investing in the right strategies – but don’t expect results within a matter of days or weeks.
Make sure your website is accessible to your visitors
Even though SEO has gotten a bad reputation in some circles, ensuring that your site is optimized for users is still important!
Making changes that improve the usability and accessibility of your site will boost its search engine rankings as well.
This includes changing fonts, lengths, colors, and overall layout/the structure of the page. It also means making sure all of the content on the pages makes sense and is relevant to the audience that would visit the page.
Google’s goal with their mobile friendly update was to make it easy to access the top results via a quick link or tap on an app. If your site isn’t easily accessed through such a method, then chances are people won’t do so.
Make all images and videos consistent
While not strictly an HTML element, consistency is one of the most important things to consider when optimizing your website or web page design.
This includes colors, fonts, sizes, and file types of each image and video you include in your pages. Consistency is key because it helps make your site look more polished and professional.
It also makes changing something down the line easy! For example, if you are using an image that does not fit with the rest of the style on your webpage, it can become difficult to change it later.
You would have to find another picture that fits, retype or edit the text, etc., which could get confusing for users.
Use your keywords in the page content
When optimizing your site for search engines, there are three major components that most refer to as “on-page optimization.” These include making changes to the content you offer on your website, changing how you organize the information with HTML and other structural tools, and improving your web presence through social media sites and SEO strategies.
The first one mentioned is using your existing content to add specific key phrases or terms you want to rank for. This can be done via adding testimonials, linking to related pages and products, creating new posts focused around these key words, etc.
The second one is organizing and structuring your content using appropriate HTML codes such as H1s, A tags, and lists to create an easy way for readers to navigate the article. Using these codes helps give users an idea of what they will find inside the article, which encourages reading.
And lastly, developing a strong online presence means more than just having a Facebook profile and posting about daily activities. Having a Twitter account, Instagram account, and/or YouTube channel sets up a medium for people to interact with you, read your latest postings, and even watch some of your videos.
Make sure your website is set up correctly
Even though you will probably be spending most of your time writing content for your site, ensuring that your website is optimized and functions properly can make a big difference in how well your site performs for users.
This includes making sure your web host is reliable, your WordPress installation is secure, and your website’s settings are easily accessable. You should also make sure to have an easy to find About Us page that tells potential customers what your company does.
Your about section could include links to your site, team members’ bios, or even a link to your social media pages so people can get more information outside of your website.
You want to seem trustworthy, which is why it is important to use good SEO practices to ensure your website looks legitimate. This means no fake looking logos or fonts, nor excessive advertising. Try doing some research and see who uses your same style as a logo or font!
It is very difficult to achieve strong rankings if your site isn’t functioning effectively.
